| The trail of talking trees | |

"Enter these enchanted woods, you who dare", This is no ordinary nature trail! Weep with the willow; Quake with fear at the witch in the elder; Let the holly tree lead you to your true love! |

Siren has launched a Talking Tree Trail at Hinksey Heights Nature Park. The trail was developed with a grant from Living Spaces. Eight British trees speak through illustrated signs, proudly presenting the poetry they have inspired and telling their own tales about local ecology and traditional culture. Funded by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister Living Spaces provides funds and support to help people make the most of open spaces in their neighbourhood. Famous for the classic dreaming spires view over Oxford, Hinksey Heights Nature Park has green grazed fields, a wooded valley, wetlands and a stream. An Oxfordshire County Wildlife Site because of a curious hillside fen, 68 species of bird, 19 species of butterfly and 8 species of dragonfly have been recorded at the site. As well as being a tranquil and intriguing place for walkers to discover, Hinksey Heights Nature Park hosts a project run in partnership by Siren and the Oxford Excellence Cluster of schools. Through this project, children reconnect with nature, learning about the environment and increasing their confidence and self-esteem. Their works of art, inspired by the site, can also be seen on the tree trail. Older pupils from Peers School have built a boardwalk, benches, tables and shelters with funding from Awards for All. Visit the trail at Hinksey Heights Nature Park. At the South Hinksey exit from the A34, follow signs to the Oxford Golf Course. The Trail takes off through a gate past the bottom corner of the Golf Course. OS GR. |
