Iganyana Bush Camp

EMERGENCY and EVACUATION PROCEDURES

 

Prevention

  • EEO has radio at all times.
  • Bush Camp office has cash sufficient for clinic charges.
  • One vehicle always at bush camp, either EEO Vehicle or Game Drive Vehicle
  • First aid kit in Bush Camp Office
  • EEO is responsible for seeing that any used first aid kit items are replenished before the next camp.

Minor injuries/illness

  • Treated with first aid kit by EEO or guide
  • If the guide can contact the EEO, by radio or adult messenger, he may be able to escort the child to the office or bring the first aid kit to the child, so as to minimize interruption an activity

In case of more seriously sick or injured student

  • Notify EEO by radio or messenger (accompanying adult, if possible)
  • Guide stays with victim
  • EEO consults with (head) teacher, if possible.
  • Guide escorts victim to vehicle.
  • EEO or Game Drive Driver evacuates victim to Safe Lodge Clinic
  • EEO takes cash with him, or gives it to Game Drive Driver (If in doubt, evacuate victim to clinic to be on the safe side)
  • Notify project manager, or office manager, by radio

In case of fire

  • Gather everyone at the campfire area
  • Contact Project Manager or Office Manager (by radio or cell phone) to arrange vehicles for evacuation of whole group to project office (or visitor centre) and to activate fire control plan.
  • EEO coordinates return of class to school or Bush Camp, as severity of fire and resolution dictates.
